EClass Fun!!
With the end of the year approaching, I am happy to announce that Simonton Elementary is in the full swing of EClass. EClass is an online resource to help students be more interactive with our curriculum. EClass will be used to put any news updates online as well as EClass homework assignments. Furthermore, we have discussion boards, dropboxes, and widgets available for the students use.. I am also working to post any powerpoints used in class under the content to help students be able to prepare for upcoming assessments. If you have any questions about EClass please feel free to email me at [email protected].
Welcome Back!
Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a fantastic winter break. I know it was nice to relax and spend some qualtiy time with the family. With that being said, we have some great things to look forward to for third nine weeks. Students will be learning about many different things ranging from Franklin Roosevelt, Fossils, Geometry, Fractions, Fables/ Folktales/Myths, and much more. Please remember to practice math facts nightly using fact dash or by purchasing flash cards. In addition students are still going to be bringing home guided reading books. Please practice these books with your child nightly. It is important that they read the book so they can come back to class ready to discuss the book with their reading group. As always, please continue to check agendas at home as well as check students homework. Lastly, continue to reinforce those positive choices our students make both in school and at home.
great happenings
Can you believe its mid way into the second nine weeks? This school year has flown by. I just want to recognize the great things happening in our classroom and highlight some ways you can help make things even greater at home.
As many of you know, we started take home reading folders last week. In these folders, students have guided reading books to read to you. Please have them read each book three times to you to really help build their comprehension and fluency. Also ask questions about the text and even question that they may have to think critically where the answer isn't necessarily in the text.
You can also help by having you child practice their math facts. Math facts really are important in math going forward. I sugguest that you practice nightly with your child for 15-20 minutes. This can also be done using "Fact Dash" loacted in the online text book or by even calling out random multiplication facts before he/ she can go out to play for an extra incentive to do well.
As always, please continue to check agendas at home as well as check students homework. Lastly, continue to reinforce those positive choices our students make both in school and at home. Thanks for everytihing!

A month into our journey and things are going great! We have learned about the Georgia Habitats, Rounding & Base Ten, and are now going on to Multiplication and the Roots of our Democracy (Branches of Government). We have been learning in our readers workshop and math workshop centers. Furthermore we have begun writing a narrative piece on the Georgia Habitats. Please continue to check agendas at home as well as homework. Also reinfoce positive behaviors both in school and at home.
